Ever since its debut at last year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Bentley EXP 9 F SUV concept has been at the center of a design controversy.

And now, Bentley’s new chief designer Luc Donckerwolke appears to want nothing to do with the work of his predecessor. A few months into his job, the design boss wants to take a very different path for the British automaker’s SUV that will feature a sportier and more contemporary interpretation of a sport utility.

Donckerwolke and his team are also hard at work with the next-generation Continental GT model, which will also depart from its current style. Donckerwolke was also hired former General Motors and Volkswagen Group designer Sang Yup Lee to take charge as exterior design chief, now that David Hilton has departed the company.
