When the Porsche Panamera first debuted, skeptics found its styling to be controversial enough to question whether or not it’d be a success.

But now that the German automaker has sold almost 100,000 Panameras in the world since its launch in 2009, Porsche is looking forward to the success of its redesigned model. Porsche believes that the new Panamera may beat the first generation’s sales.

Of course the success of the new Panamera is contingent on the continual growth of world markets such as China. The Chinese car market is the biggest sales region for the Panamera and could expand between 7 to 10 percent this year.

“I certainly see the chance that if world markets continue to develop favorably, we’ll be able to sell more [Panameras] than of the first generation,” said sales chief Bernard Maier.
