AutoGuide‘s spy photographers have caught the new, next-generation Audi Q7 during its first public testing.

The all-new Q7 isn’t expected to hit the market until late 2014, likely as a 2015 model year, and its platform will be shared with the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, and the upcoming Bentley SUV.

The next-generation Q7 is expected to keep the same size as the current iteration, but will shed around 880 pounds. The current-generation Q7 is now over eight years old, so a major update is overdue for the aging SUV model.

Thanks to its weight loss, the next-generation Q7 will likely see a hybrid variant powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged engine mated to a pair of electric motors for the U.S. and China markets. Other models will carry over current powertrains.
