Now that BMW has whet our appetite by unveiling the M4 Coupe Concept, the production M4 coupe and convertible just can’t come soon enough.

AutoGuide‘s spy photographers were able to catch the upcoming M4 convertible testing, which won’t offer too many surprises once the production M4 coupe makes an appearance. Recent reports state that the M4 coupe will make its official debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and no manual transmission will be available for the next-generation sports car from BMW.

Unfortunately, the German automaker still hasn’t spilled the details on what will be powering the M4 variants, but it’s believed to have around 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged six-cylinder. It’s not just the powerplant however that will boost performance compared to the E92 M3 coupe, the M4 will go on a significant diet and will be several hundred pounds lighter than the standard 4 Series model.
