It’s not quite the full car reveal, but Mazda will be bringing something from its new MX-5 Miata to the 2014 New York Auto Show.

The highly anticipated debut of the next-generation MX-5 Miata isn’t expected until the 2015 Chicago Auto Show, but New York Auto Show attendees this year will at least get to check out upcoming sports car’s chassis. The new vehicle will be built on a shared-platform with Fiat, though the Italian automaker hasn’t made it clear whether it’ll be a Fiat or Alfa Romeo model. Mazda however, will be in charge of producing both vehicles.

Being displayed alongside the new chassis will be iconic MX-5 models from the past, 15 in total, many of which comes from Mazda’s facility in Irvine, California. Since the MX-5 Miata debuted at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, over 900,000 units have been built and sold.

still waiting for a model with >200 hp...drop a modern engine in there with DI/VVT/etc giving a car that light ~225bhp and it'll have OK performance on top of the no doubt smooth chassis and great handling.
