GMC could add a Jeep Wrangler competitor to its lineup in the future.

According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, GM is mulling an off-road SUV for its GMC brand that would be a direct competitor to the Jeep Wrangler. Rumors of GMC adding a capable off-road SUV to its lineup have been swirling since March 2014, but now the American automaker is polling its dealers to get a gauge on potential demand.

It is being reported that GMC believes a new off-road model would help boost the brand significantly and sources claim that the new model would draw inspiration from the now defunct Hummer brand with similar capability. The potential SUV model is still in the discussion phase but it is likely that GM is seriously considering the model since it is asking the opinions of dealerships.

They better bring it to compete with jeep lets face GM has had it's issues and service after the sale is horrible that includes Cadillac. The wrangler holds it's value unbelievably and most don't hang on to their GM's(mostly due to customer service) Jeep owners are a dedicated bunch of people.

In the rest of the world Toyota is the most historically accomplished offroader there is. The problem with this country is that we are considered a unique market that is specifically designed for. This has generally meant our vehicles get dumbed down and the most crucial basics are forced to be upgraded to comfort from the rest of the worlds market. No turbo diesels, no sticks, no solid front axles, no selectable lockers and transfercase options.... Toyota and Nissan could have made a killing in the niche offroad market simply by offering 70s series cruisers and patrols here. Both of those vehicles utterly blow Jeep out of the water in offroad capability... If GMC doesnt step up and realise they need true blue offroading necessities as options like listed above they'll fall on their face. An IFS front hummer looking thing is never going to compete with a wrangler...
