Civic Type R Line-Off Event

Today is a day many Honda lovers have been waiting for.

The first all-new Civic Type R rolled off the assembly line at the brand’s plant in Swindon, U.K. For now, the hot hatch will exclusively be sold in Europe, though North America will get the Type R in the next two to three years.

Power for the new hot Civic comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 306 hp, with a redline topping out at 7,000 rpm. Top speed for the car is rated at 167 mph, which helped a prototype version of the car lay down an impressive 7:50 lap time at the Nurburgring.

“The new Civic Type R is an imperative model for Honda, representing our racing spirit and demonstrating our commitment to innovation and passion,” said Soichiro Takizawa, Managing Director at Honda UK Manufacturing. “We are extremely proud to be the only manufacturer of the Civic Type R in the world. Our high standards have earned us this privilege and this is testament to the continued commitment of our associates.”
