The Range Rover Sentinel is the first armored Land Rover to be fully engineered by the company’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division.

Being billed as a luxury fortress on wheels, the Range Rover Sentinel is based on the luxurious Range Rover Autobiography and has VR8 level certification that confirms impressive ballistic and blast resistance. The SUV is designed to withstand penetration by 7.62mm high velocity, armor piercing incendiary bullets, has lateral protection against up to 15kg of TNT blasts and defense against DM51 grenade explosions from both beneath the floor and above the roof.

The core of the Range Rover Sentinel is a specially-developed, six-piece armored passenger cell that is constructed from high-strength steel. The standard glass on the vehicle has been swapped out for multi-laminated armor privacy glass with bullet protection.

Under the hood is the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 engine with 335 hp paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Range Rover Sentinel is available to order beginning this month and is available in the U.K., Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East with a starting price of around $450,000.

“The Range Rover Sentinel is one of the most extraordinary Range Rovers ever produced,” said John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. “It has been expertly engineered by Special Vehicle Operations to provide class leading levels of protection to occupants against extreme attack, whilst retaining the Range Rover’s luxury and refinement with off road capability.”
