Wireframe art sculptures of a convertible Range Rover Evoque have popped up around London, previewing what the world’s first luxury SUV droptop will look like and confirming that the new model is coming.

As if the Evoque wasn’t niche enough, a convertible version seems to be the answer to a question no one was asking. The regular Evoque is generally accepted to be a pretty SUV, but the convertible does away with some of its best features, mainly the sloping roofline and coupe profile.

Regardless of whether you like it or not, Range Rover has displayed the 1:1 scale sculptures in some of London’s most prestigious streets, with Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s design director, saying that “The Range Rover Evoque Convertible is perfectly suited to the urban surroundings of a city like London and it’s the perfect place to showcase the world’s first luxury compact SUV convertible. The locations chosen reflect the refined and luxurious lifestyle of an Evoque Convertible customer – two attributes this vehicle delivers in abundance.”

There’s no word yet on if the roofless new model will be as off-road capable and its hardtop siblings, but expect it to have the same powertrain options.

The Range Rover Evoque Convertible will make its official debut in November, likely at the L.A. Auto Show.
