Volvo Teases Concepts for New Compact Models
Volvo is getting ready to debut its compact offerings.
Although the Swedish automaker won’t confirm what’s being teased, it is believed that Volvo is getting ready to show off the new S40 or V40 along with a compact crossover sporting the XC40 nameplate. It is known that Volvo will debut two separate concepts next week, both of which will ride on the company’s new CMA platform that is co-developed with Chinese-owner Geely. In an usual move, however, the company used Snapchat to tease the upcoming concepts, a move likely made to appeal to younger buyers. In fact, the caption on one of the images read, “Not your daddy’s Volvo.”

Not surprisingly, the concept follows in the footsteps of recent models from the automaker. Up front we can see the “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights and Volvo’s signature front-end design. It is believed that the next-generation V40 and XC40 models will offer a mixture of three- and four-cylinder engines, with electrified variants being developed including a plug-in hybrid.
Given how popular crossovers are becoming, expect to see the compact XC40 to hit the market first, most likely by next year. The V40 wagon and the S40 sedan will follow.
