Lucky Ford GT Buyers Can Opt for a More Hardcore Model
If the Ford GT wasn’t hardcore enough for you, the automaker offers an even more track-oriented version.
Update: Ford has confirmed to Road & Track that the 3,054-pound dry weight it announced for the Ford GT was measured on a Competition Series model, meaning it isn’t a lightweight special edition. The Competition Series package has been available since production began and selecting the option does not make the car lighter than the 3,054-lb figure Ford announced.
The supercar’s online configurator has revealed a Competition Series model that Ford says “is the lightest, highest performing version of the Ford GT road car and the closest one can get to experiencing the car that won the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans.”
On the outside, the Ford GT Competition Series is unique with standard lightweight gloss carbon fiber wheels with titanium lug nuts, standard titanium exhaust with unique titanium tips, a unique lightweight, race-inspired engine hatch with Perspex cover and manual latch, bulkhead fitted with lightweight Gorilla Glass as well as exposed carbon fiber stripe, lowers, mirror caps and A-pillars.
Color choices for the Competition Series include Shadow Black, Frozen White, Ingot Silver, Liquid Blue, Liquid Grey and Triple Yellow.

As you can expect, the focus on weight savings continues inside with several luxury comforts removed in the name of performance. The air conditioner and radio hardware have been tossed out to shed weight, while lightweight Ebony Black Alcantara has been used on the seats and headliner. The cabin also features an exposed carbon fiber console, air registers, and door sills. Further accenting the interior are anodized red paddle shifters, anodized red instrument panel chassis badge and red pedal adjustment and emergency door release pull straps.
Matte dark stainless bezels, finishers and seat x-brace are subtle highlights to the interior, joining the unique instrument panel plate and steering wheel bezel to finish off the changes.
No pricing on the Ford GT Competition Series was announced.
