Wild McLaren Vision Gran Turismo Has 1,150 HP and Active Aero
McLaren has shown its new Vision Gran Turismo concept for the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport Playstation 4 game.
The Vision Gran Turismo program was thought up by the creators of the Gran Turismo series. It calls upon the world’s automakers to design radical concepts that originally appeared in Gran Turismo 6 and will now appear in the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport. The brands are challenged to design extreme, forward-thinking performance concepts that represent the future direction of their brand, with McLaren being the latest automaker to show off their Vision GT creation.
McLaren’s Vision GT, called the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo, is a hybrid hypercar the British automaker says it could produce in 2030 or beyond. It’s powered by a 1,150 horsepower hybrid drivetrain, which consists of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 driving the rear wheels and high output electric motors powering each of the front wheels. The high-performance drivetrain is joined by different active aerodynamic components and extremely lightweight carbon ceramic brakes.

The driver of the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo will lay prone in the centrally positioned single seat, with the cabin “shrink wrapped” around them. This allows the driver to get a better view of the approaching corners and also emphasizes the “driver first” ethos McLaren pursued with its Vision GT. The automaker says the design “communicates exactly what the car’s mission is and what its intentions are: it’s the ultimate expression of the McLaren design pillars and principles we have already established, futured into the 2030s.”
“For me, a car needs to be an extension of the driver; I am focused not just on the appearance, but on the handling, the sound of the engine, and the feeling you get when you are racing,” said Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi. “So, it was an honour to work with McLaren to bring the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo to life, and to put such a car on the circuits of Gran Turismo Sport for players to enjoy driving at the limit.”
Gran Turismo Sport will be released on October 17th, 2017, at which point you’ll be able to virtually pilot the Ultimate Vision Gran Turismo.
