It would appear Liberty Media has decided on a new logo for Formula 1.

Last week, AutoGuide.com discovered trademarks submitted by Formula One Licencing B.V to the European Union Intellectual Property Office detailing three potential new look logos for the series.

It now appears a direction has been decided upon as new filings have surfaced at the US Patent and Trademark Office. At least 16 trademark applications featuring a stylized F1 mark consisting of three black linear elements, all angled to the right, have appeared in the USPTO database this week.

Aside from replacing F1’s current, iconic, branding, Liberty Media is proposing the new logo will be used for a range of additional purposes including “sporting and cultural activities,” the “distribution of films, sound, and image recordings,” and even inexplicably obscure purposes like branding “french fries; fish and meat preserves”.

Formula 1 insiders have been quick to claim the new logo had already been decided upon, with F1 planning to deploy the new look during this weekend’s season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
