The highly anticipated mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette has been caught by spy photographers cold testing in the Arctic.

Although Chevy’s new Ferrari-fighter is still covered in heavy camouflage that obscures the design details, these are the best shots yet of the new supercar’s sleek shape. The spy photos show also a closeup of the dual caliper rear brakes and a peek at the square quad-tailpipe setup with two on each end instead of the current C7 Corvette’s circular, central design.

Although GM has not publicly acknowledged the existence of a mid-engine Corvette, its lawyers inadvertently did the job by threatening legal action unless AutoGuide.com and various other outlets took down leaked CAD images that showed details the vehicle’s new engine and chassis design. Those images pretty much confirmed that the C8 mid-engine Corvette will be powered by a DOHC twin-turbo V8 called the LT7. It’s speculated to displace anywhere from 4.2 to 5.5 liters. Power output could be upwards of 800 hp.

Rumors say the mid-engine Corvette might make a surprise debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week, but we remain skeptical. If it does arrive this year, a debut at the supercar-heavy Geneva Motor Show in March wouldn’t be out of the question if Chevy really wants to align itself with the Ferraris and McLarens of the world.

those are some beefy interior A-pillars...so, what will corvette buyers get if they want a $70k C8? will there be multiple levels or trims of the mid-engined car; from regular to wild like now

Im a proud C7 owner , very happy about it, cant ask for more on its Performance ,styling and Engine, it is superb. If a rear engine corvette base price is going to be $120 k, im not buying it. Im not planning to Track or race. $120K will go to retirement funds.
