Indian automotive giant Mahindra presented its plans for the newly christened Automobili Pininfarina brand in Rome last week.

Mahindra, which owns the storied Italian design house, has rebranded Pininfarina into an electric automaker. Its first vehicle will be the PF Zero hypercar, which has been previewed with the teaser image seen here. The PF Zero will serve as the brand’s halo car and will be developed in collaboration with the Croation electric vehicle experts at Rimac.

Rimac’s involvement bodes well for the Pininfarina hypercar. The company recently unveiled its C_Two hypercar at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, which boasts similar specs to what Mahindra wants for the PF Zero. The fully electric C_Two makes 1,914 hp, can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 1.85 seconds and will top out at 258 mph. We’re told the production PF Zero will have around 2,000 hp thanks to its fully electric powertrain, enabling a 0-60 mph time of under two seconds and a top speed of 250 mph. Engineers are also aiming for a driving range of about 310 miles.

Pininfarina has plans to introduce a fully electric SUV following the PF Zero’s introduction, which would take on rivals like the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The company has ambitions to offer Level 3 or higher autonomous driving technology as well, along with software with over-the-air updates and wireless charging technology.

The PF Zero is expected to launch in 2020, just in time for Pininfarina’s 90th anniversary, and is expected to cost around $2.5 million USD. It’s not to be confused with the hydrogen-powered, Pininfarina-designed H2 Speed supercar, which is being developed by Franco-Swiss company GreenGT and is slated to go on sale sometime in the near future.
