Watch Out Tesla – Now Nissan Has a Solar Powerwall Too

The system, dubbed Nissan Energy Solar, includes integrated solar panels, a battery storage system and a home energy management system. This allows customers to generate electricity through the solar panels and store it in the xStorage Home battery pack for later use. They can use the stored electricity to charge their Nissan Leaf, for example, or simply enjoy the reduced dependence on the local energy grid.

For now, Nissan Energy Solar is only being offered to customers in the United Kingdom.

“Nissan Energy Solar is a complete system for home energy generation, management and storage,” said Gareth Dunsmore, Nissan’s electric vehicle operator for Europe. “It enables UK homeowners to make significant savings on their household electricity bills, and become champions of sustainability and green technology.”

“More than 880,000 people in the UK already use solar panels and this fully integrated solution brings a fresh opportunity to grow this number exponentially over the coming years.”

Interested customers are looking at an entry-level cost of £3,881, equivalent to just over $5,000 USD. For that price, they’ll get a six-panel solar system (installation costs included) and the home energy management system. They will also get the choice of a new or recycled battery cell, giving especially earth-friendly buyers peace of mind.
