Hyundai Grandmaster SUV Concept Previews Its Future Designs
Hyundai pulled the wraps off of the new HDC-2 Grandmaster SUV concept at the 2018 Busan Motor Show today.
The big and burly SUV concept is intended to preview Hyundai’s future design direction for larger vehicles. It follows in the footsteps of the Hyundai HDC-1 Le Fil Rouge Concept and is similarly styled with a big, imposing grille up front and swoopy styling lines. Between the HDC-1 and HDC-2, we have a fairly good idea of what a large Hyundai of the future might look like.

“Today we showcased the HDC-2 concept vehicle as a blueprint for our evolved design strategy,” said Hyundai design chief SangYup Lee. “Making a big step forward in terms of design with the Hyundai Look strategy, we will move towards becoming a brand that customers can really relate to emotionally. Moving on from being a brand that provides a great value, we will aspire to also become a brand that is widely beloved by our customers.”
Little details were provided on the HDC-2’s powertrain, so it’s safe to assume that this big SUV is a design exercise only. Not surprisingly, it looks quite similar to prototypes for the large Hyundai SUV expected to arrive in 2020 with a large grille and a similar C-Pillar. The SUV will arrive alongside the production version of the Kia Telluride full-size SUV, which is expected to be shown sometime this year before going on sale in 2019.
