Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo Headed to Production

On Friday, Porsche announced the first Taycan (nee Mission E) electric car derivative. The Mission E Cross Turismo will enter production.

The concept turned the Mission E electric-car concept into a more rugged off-road wagon of sorts. The show car made its debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, but it’s unclear if the production model will follow the concept, or simply show up as a Taycan wagon of sorts. It very well could complement the Taycan much like the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo does for the regular Panamera sedan.

Following in the Taycan’s footsteps, the Mission E Cross Turismo will likely boast identical performance specifications. Thus, we can expect a range-topping model to pack over 600 horsepower and a 300-mile range. Like the upcoming liftback electric sedan, the Mission E Cross Turismo will feature the new 800-volt electrical system, too.

The charging architecture will allow drivers to juice the battery to 80 percent within 15 to 20 minutes. But, that’s only with a 350-kilowatt charger.

While the Porsche Taycan will arrive next year, the brand didn’t say when the wagon derivative will arrive. A 2020 introduction doesn’t seem unlikely, however. With the announcement, the Zuffenhausen plant in Germany will add another 300 jobs to produce the production Mission E Cross Turismo. And just to ensure both electric cars’ green credentials, the manufacturing process will be carbon-neutral.
