The sporty and luxurious Genesis G70 has won the 2019 North American Car of the Year Award, which was announced first thing at this year’s Detroit Auto Show.

The sport sedan has emerged as the top vehicle after several rounds of voting by about 60 jurors from North America, including AutoGuide.com’s editor-in-chief, Jodi Lai. The Genesis was awarded over the Honda Insight and Volvo S60/V60. The NACTOY jurors look for cars that raise the benchmark, and the Genesis G70 definitely does that.

The Genesis G70 is the brand’s first attempt to take on sports sedans like the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class, featuring a rear-wheel-drive platform and sporty driving dynamics. It can be had with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine or turbo six-cylinder, in both rear- and all-wheel-drive setups and can even be had with a manual transmission in some trims.

The Genesis G70 also won AutoGuide.com’s Car of the Year Award this year, beating out stiff competition including Honda Insight, Nissan Altima, Kia Rio, and Hyundai Veloster.
