Innovative Thinkers Share Secrets in Jaguar's Backseat Stories

Most of us at one time or another end up having a few backseat car stories, in many cases probably involving steamy windows and, well, you get the picture.

Now, Jaguar is putting its own take on the backseat theme, by  launching a new series on its official YouTube channel, called Backseat stories, designed to tie in with its new “Alive,” ad campaign, which aims to prey on human emotion.

Despite what the title might suggest, the series actually revolves around some of today’s brightest minds, as they share some of their innermost thoughts with the audience about their own success stories, along with other topics of interest.  Even from watching the first episode it’s interesting to see how, as individuals, we perceive the world and our place in it.

Infiniti JX Inspires Cirque Du Soleil

Marketing stunts can be wild and crazy at times, but they rarely involve, well, actual stunts. Despite that, Infiniti will be streaming a live Cirque Du Soleil performance that features the 2012 Infiniti JX.

Infiniti says the JX will “challenge gravity” in the performance, so we hope to see it flying through the air supported by trapeze artists. The event will be called Le Voyage Inspire, and will be approximately 11 minutes long. Nine Cirque Du Soleil performers will use JX as the focus of their act.

Infiniti is getting the JX name out in as many venues possible lately,  sponsoring NCAA Basketball and now getting into acrobatic acts. Surely the company is trying to guarantee its expectation that the JX will be it’s second best seller.

The Cirque Du Soleil performance will stream live Thursday, March 29, at 12 p.mm Eastern Daylight Time.

75 Cars Do Donuts Simultaneously for New World Record

75 cars gathered on March 20 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., for a singular purpose; to participate in every hoon-hound’s favorite activity behind the wheel, doing donuts.

All the cars did donuts simultaneously and broke a Guinness World Record for most cars to perform the stunt simultaneously for at least 15 seconds. The event was recorded and sent to Guiness for approval, but it is clear that the drivers in the video completed the task.

The previous record was set in Australia when 57 cars gathered for the same circuler purpose.

Over 200 spectators watched the spectacle of ruined rubber and tire smoke, and many videos have surfaced thanks to all the iPhones in attendance.

Three of them are below, though more are sure to surface as people upload from their smartphones and cameras. It’s not clear if Guinness will actually award them the distinction, but it doesn’t look like an official witnessed the event.

It's a Close Cut With Ferrari-Powered Hair Clippers

Thinking outside the branding box, Ferrari has collaborated on the most unexpected product – hair clippers.

The BaByliss Pro Volare X1 Clipper was designed in conjunction with the Ferrari Design Team. These clippers are powered by an ultra-efficient high-torque engine that helps cut two times faster on the first pass. To give you that ultra-suave cut, the BaByliss Pro Volare X1 Clipper is equipped with titanium-coated steel cutting blades, ensuring you look your best when you hit the clubs.

If you’re serious about your ‘do, you’ll want to get the BaByliss Pro Volare dryer. Designed for maximum airflow and minimum weight, the dryer offers low vibration and outputs 2,000 watts of power. There’s also a “turbo boost” button that gives you 15 percent more air velocity – how’s that for some serious hot air?

You really have to watch the promo after the jump. You wouldn’t know they were hawking a hair care product because they don’t mention the clippers until about 1:30 into it. We don’t think they meant it to be funny (come on, the video is titled “The Grand Prix of Grooming”), but we’re sure it’ll make you LOL.

2012 Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Promo Video Released

Earlier this month, we shared images of the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante 2012 Concept that debuted at the Geneva Auto Show. Drawing inspiration directly from the 1952 Alfa Romeo Disco Volante, the homage concept becomes reality as a limited quantity series will be produced for select aficionados.

Built upon a donor Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione body, the front-mid engine rear-wheel-drive italian sports car carries over powertrain and running gear including the 444-hp, 4.7 liter V8 which makes 347 lb.-ft. of torque, the 6-speed sequential gearbox, a limited slip differential, as well as front and rear double-wishbone suspension.

Virtually identical to the 8C Competizione, the Disco Volante 2012 reaches 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds and attains a top speed of about 181 mph.

Touring Superleggera will leave the interior of the 8C Competizione untouched but if requested by clients, personalization to meet tastes and preferences will be eagerly accommodated.

Each donor 8C Competizione will undergo an extensive build process that takes approximately 4,000 hours under the hands of highly skilled craftsmen and engineers of Milan. This translates to a delivery time of eight months after the reception of a donor 8C. As for its price, if you have to ask (and if you don’t already have an 8C), it is more than likely that you will not be able to afford it.

Check out the promotional video of the Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera Disco Volante 2012 below.

Jay-Z and Kanye West 'Otis' Maybach Up For Auction To Benefit Save the Children -Video

Although Daimler has announced the discontinuation of the Maybach brand, young money ballers, shot-callers now have the opportunity to bid on what’s arguably the most notorious Maybach of all.

Starring in the Jay-Z and Kanye West “Otis” music video, the chopped “Mad Max” Maybach will be put on the block by auction house Phillips de Pury & Co. at the New York Contemporary Art Evening sale on March 8. All proceeds of the Maybach auction will be donated to Save the Children. Previously, this vehicle was also up for auction to benefit the victims of drought in East Africa.

Burning rubber in four-wheel drifts and spitting fire in the process, Rockafella’s insane whip is estimated to raise between $100,000 to $150,000. Considering Jay-Z and Kanye’s handiwork left us with half a car, it seems appropriate for its estimate to be half the value of a Maybach 57 when new.

Chevrolet Volt Owner Makes Gun Rack Video, Proves Gingrich Wrong

A Chevrolet Volt owner made Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich look pretty silly by posting a video response to the senator’s comment today that you can’t have a gun rack in a Chevrolet Volt.

It turns out that a little bit of PVC pipe, some string string and American ingenuity make darn good rifle toting material in the back of a Volt, or really any sedan. Before getting to deeply into what goes on in the citizen rebulttle, let’s go over what Gingrich said to stir this stuff up.

“You know the Volt is an interesting experimental car. The average family that buys it earns $170,000 a year. This is Obama’s idea of populism and in this new budget he wants to increase the amount given to every Volt buyer to $10,000.” Gingrich said. “Which is an amount which a lot of people would by a decent second-hand car, but it wouldn’t be an ‘Obama’ car.”

“But here’s my point folks: You can’t put a gun rack in a Volt,” he said to much laughter and applause.

Well, it looks like there’s going to be a lot more laughter, though probably not on the Gingrich campaign trail. Perhaps politicians in general should avoid using absolutes, of only to avoid looking silly after saying words like “can’t” or “never.”

Maybe the world should be thanking Gingrich. His rant spurred someone to build a new Volt accessory that Chevrolet certainly wouldn’t hav e thought to market.

You can watch videos of both Gingrich and the gun rack after the jump.

Jeremy Clarkson Complaints Dismissed by Ofcom

Jeremy Clarkson was invited to the BBC1’s The One Show’ last November where he remarked that the striking public sector workers should be shot. Striking controversy once again, Clarkson’s comment caused more than 30,000 complaints to the BBC and almost 800 to media regulator Ofcom.

Responding to the public reaction, Ofcom held an investigation to decide whether the show had broken any rules on taste and decency. Finally, Ofcom has announced that the program is cleared of breaching broadcasting regulations, defending that viewers should be familiar with Jeremy Clarkson’s “provocative and outspoken nature.”

Ofcom director Christopher Woolard stated in a four-page letter that, “The editorial nature of the program as a whole would have prepared viewers for the type of comments Jeremy Clarkson would be likely to make” and when considering Clarkson’s “well-established public persona,” Clarkson’s comment wasn’t overly offensive.

Woolard also added that, “The audience for this edition of The One Show would have expected Jeremy Clarkson to make potentially controversial or offensive statements… his comments were not an expression of seriously held beliefs or views that should be literally interpreted.”

In the past, Jeremy Clarkson has always been known to make a wide range of brash remarks. By now, victims to Clarkson’s insensitivity will have to accept this is only Clarkson being himself.

Check out Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial segment on The One Show after the jump:
