2021 Infiniti Cars
Infiniti released the Q Inspiration Concept, which came with the announcement that it will become an all-electric brand by 2021, with every model available with some level of electrification. Models like the QX60 and QX80 continue to be good sellers for the brand, with sportier models such as the Q60 Red Sport 400 offering luxury car buyers good performance and good looks. The QX50 is new from the ground up, and features a wild variable compression engine, the first production engine of its kind.
Infiniti was created in 1989, when Nissan needed a channel to sell premium vehicles that were more appropriate for higher price points. Their first model, the Q45, was a large luxury sedan that was sold until 2006, while the G35, introduced in 2003, became the G37 and has been credited with reviving the brand.
Kicking off the Infiniti range is the brand's sole sedan offering, the Q50. Meant to fight the likes of the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4, it's a sporty-looking four-door with a range of powerful, turbocharged V6 engines. In it's top trim it puts out a big, round 400 hp, and all models have the option of either rear- or all-wheel drive. The Q50 majors on power, looks, and value—prices start at just $37,425—but earns demerits for its feel-free steering and disappointing, confusing infotainment setup.
The least expensive crossover in the Japanese luxury brand's lineup might just be its best. This two-row crossover features a world-first, variable-compression turbocharged engine. It's seriously high-tech, but it can be boiled down thusly: more power, and better fuel mileage. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive optional. The engine is one of the QX50's biggest strengths, alongside its beautiful interior and stunning exterior. We're not big fans of its infotainment system nor the un-luxury feel of its continuously-variable transmission. Expect to pay just $38,275 for an entry level model, or as much as $56,875 for a top-of-the-line Autograph AWD QX50.
Think of the Infiniti Q60 as the more cultured version of Nissan's venerable 370Z. The stylish coupe shares its drivetrains with the Q50 sedan, meaning a turbo V6 in either 300 or 400 hp trim. A starting price of $42,375 gives it the value proposition too. That's the good news. The bad news is the extra power comes at a high price ($10k!), the steering lacks the feel a sport coupe needs, and the infotainment is the same one we've dinged other Infinitis for. But those looks...
The QX60 is the bread winner of the Infiniti family, accounting for more sales than any other model. That's likely due to its agreeable ride for up to seven people, its ample storage space, and its powerful V6 engine. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive a $2,000 option. We dislike the Q60's infotainment system—it's even older than the one found in other Infinitis—and the tight way-back space. A replacement is likely to touch down in 2021.
A dinosaur of the automotive world in more than one way, the QX80 sits comfortably at the top of the Infiniti lineup. This big and brash SUV is old school, with a great big V8 in its upright nose and body-on-frame construction. Subtlety is not its forte, but it can tow and play in the dirt better than most other large SUVs out there. Despite its huge dimensions, the third row is best suited for tiny tots. The QX80's price tag is also outsized: it starts at $68,145, but tops out at a scarcely believable $92,845.
