BMW M6 Gran Coupe Planned as Mercedes CLS63 AMG Rival

With BMW seemingly bent on filling every automotive niche it possibly can, we’ve now been given more details on the M6 Gran Coupe, based on the 6-Series four-door slated for introduction this year.

In essence, the M6 Gran Coupe takes many features from the new F10 chassis M5, including that car’s 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and wraps them in a slightly harder edge package (slicker profile and lower center of gravity).

With 552 hp and some 501 lb-ft of torque on tap, that should give it a 0-62 mph time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed (electronically limited of course), of 155 mph.

In typical M-car fashion, the Gran Coupe M6 will get more aggressive styling tweaks than the garden variety version, including a more pronounced front fascia, rocker panels and rear diffuser with signature quad exhaust tips.

With the launch of the regular 6-Series Gran Coupe (shown above) still several months away, it’s unlikely we’ll see the M version materialize for at least a year, though when it does, this car will certainly give Mercedes’ 5.5-liter CLS AMG (which makes less power but slightly more torque) a good run for its money.
