Mazda Miata Sales Were Up Nearly 50% In 2023

There’s any number of reasons the Mazda Miata could’ve seen an almost 50% bump in sales last year.


Perhaps one of the hottest winters on record caused folks to reconsider convertible ownership, or maybe it’s because the Miata as we know it likely isn’t long for the world. Whatever the reason, Mazda managed to sell 8,973 of the small sports cars.


More specifically, that is 4,591 soft-top roadsters and 4,382 RF (hardtop) models. In total, that’s 2,802 Miatas more than last year’s 6,171 units. Interestingly, this year is a deviation from the norm, at least in terms of how people are ordering their Miatas. Last year, the brand sold 3,583 RFs to 2,588 roadsters. The more even 50/50 split is new, but it’s clear Mazda had the right idea in adding the power hardtop with the previous NC-generation car.


It isn’t clear what spurred the uptake in sales this year. The Miata didn’t see any significant updates this year, which rules that out. It’s possible, as said above, that people know the purely ICE-powered Miata isn’t long for the world. Whatever the reason, more Miatas on the road is never a bad thing.
