Justin Bieber Gets a Fisker Karma for His 18th Birthday
When teen heartthrob Justin Bieber (aka the Biebs) is spotted around town, its usually behind the wheel of a Bentley or Ferrari. But from now on, he’ll likely be piloting his newest toy; a responsible means of transportation given to him on the occasion of his 18th birthday.
Celebrating on the Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday, Bieber’s manager Scooter Braun handed over the keys to a shiny new Fisker Karma.
“We wanted to make sure, since you love cars, that when you’re on the road you are always environmentally friendly,” said Braun, adding, “And we decided to get you a car that would make you stand out.”
The startup American electric car company is named after its founder Henrik Fisker, an industry veteran and designer of cars like the BMW Z8 and many of the modern Aston Martins. The Karma uses a range extended electric drive engine similar to that found in the Chevy Volt. It makes over 400 hp, however, and can sprint to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, while also offering a 32 mile emissions free range and several hundred miles thereafter at roughly 52 mpg.
Bieber is the latest celebrity to purchase a Karma with the very first owner being well known celebrity and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio.
