Pros

Cons

Great all-weather traction

Increase in highway noise compared to all season

Stable ride at speed

Higher price point

Off Road capability

Weight, heavier tire

Toughness, strong heavy duty sidewalls

When it was time to replace the budget off-brand all-terrain tires on my 2008 Ford F-150, I decided to go with a set of BFGoodrich T/A KO2 s. It’s a decision I should have made years ago, but I found a deal on a set of budget tires and regretted it as soon as I pulled out of the shop. They were squishy, loud and the shop had challenges balancing them.

The difference between moving to the premium BFGs is night and day as this truck is primarily dedicated to lake house duty. After putting them through various tests, including off-road adventures, highway cruising, pulling boats, hardware store runs, and hauling my two golden retrievers (Smokey and Bandit) everywhere I am sold on the saying “you get what you pay for”.

Early Test

The first week I mounted the tires I was called to action as a buddy with a lifted Ford F-250 diesel got stuck hauling his 5th-wheel camper out of a wet field. He had the low profile “street” tires and was just spinning in 4-wheel drive. I hooked up a recovery strap and pulled him and the trailer out of the mess onto higher ground. He was thoroughly embarrassed so he did not let me document this adventure with my iPhone. However, I told him to get himself some proper truck tires as I was pulling away.

Here are some initial impressions after about 5,000 miles of testing, driving, and hauling.

Traction: 5/5

The amazing traction of the BFG’s tires extends beyond challenging terrains. When towing my boat in and out of the lake, the tires exhibited impressive grip on boat ramps and wet surfaces. I towed a 4,000-pound 25-foot pontoon and a 1,500-pound PWC and noticed no sway or issue pulling up the steep ramp and into the storage location, over some hilly grassy terrain. I also took it up a steep dirt hill in our neighborhood and was impressed with the grip going up a trail that was meant for dirtbikes and ATV’s. I was able to safely and confidently navigate the deep ruts and pull the ole F150 up the hill.

Durability: 4/5

The durability of these tires has stood up well not only to off-road conditions but also to the added stress of towing a boat or hauling hardware for projects. The reinforced sidewalls have proven their worth when maneuvering over uneven terrain. I did pick up a nail in the first month of ownership and the tire was able to be plugged without any issues.

Comfort: 5/5

The sturdier construction of E-rated all-terrain tires can impact ride comfort. While the ride may be slightly stiffer, it didn't significantly affect the experience, even when towing a boat or carrying Smokey and Bandit. There was no sway or rear-end rebound like I had experienced with the previous set of all-terrain tires. The noise level with the BFG’s was much more tolerable than the off-brand A/T tires as well, making for a comfortable journey both on and off the road.

Versatility: 5/5

The true strength of these tires lies in their versatility. Whether I'm pulling a boat trailer, navigating through rocky trails, or hauling the doggos, the tires consistently perform well. Their adaptability to different terrains makes them a best-in-class choice for drivers with diverse needs, especially those who use their rig to enjoy outdoor activities that involve towing or carrying equipment.

Overall Impression: 4.5/5

The BFGoodrich T/A KO2 all-terrain tires have proven to be the way to go if you are in the market for an all-terrain tire. They are a reliable proven choice for drivers who demand more from their tires. From off-road excursions to towing boats and hauling dogs, these tires deliver excellent traction and durability. The overall performance and adaptability of these tires was above and beyond others that I have used in the past. I am now a BFG customer for life.
