Last month, rumors began churning that Land Rover was working on a sportier Range Rover Evoque model. Now details are being reported that the supposed Evoque R could be powered by the same supercharged V6 found in the upcoming Jaguar F-Type.

The standard Range Rover Evoque model sports 240-hp, which is on par with its competitors, but could definitely use more performance to boost the model’s image. That’s the plan with the Evoque R model, and if the reports are true, it will feature a detuned version of the Jaguar 3.0-liter V6 supercharged with 340 hp (compared to 360 hp).

There’s no arguing that it would be the right move for the Evoque, considering the 2013 BMW X1 can be had with a 3.0-liter inline-six with 300-hp. Don’t forget there’s also Porsche‘s upcoming Macan offering that promises to deliver a 370-hp V6 powerplant under the hood.
