The X Games RallyCross is going through its practice runs today, and Finnish driver Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen suffered a violent crash into a metal jump ramp.

Heikkinen was practicing a 50-foot gap jump when his Fiesta came up short and smashed head-on into the metal ramp. The vehicle landed upside-down, but the driver was able to crawl out on his own. Even though it looks like it could have been much worse, Heikkinen suffered from a broken ankle and abdominal injuries but was awake and alert after the accident.

He’s currently undergoing a CT scan as a precaution and is not expected to compete on Sunday’s finals, but will continue to be evaluated by X Games’ medical staff. As for the Fiesta, it clearly suffered significant damage in the incident and caught on fire after Heikkinen was able to get out. Needless to say, jump practice was canceled for the rest of the day. We would be surprised to see it make a return in actual competition.
