2025 Infiniti QX80 Downsizes And Ditches The V8

Infiniti has shared some powertrain specs for the upcoming QX80 redesign. The full-size, three-row SUV will be powered by an interaction of Nissan’s VR series of V6 engines, the very same that have powered cars like the Z for ages. This VR35DDT brings serious power increases over the previous QX80’s V8 powertrain- Infiniti says figures are up 50 horsepower and 102 lb-ft to a solid 450 horsepower and 515 lb-ft of torque.

The updated twin-turbo V6 will be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, which Infiniti says will have a 40% wider ratio range. Apparently, this will allow for both strong acceleration and efficient highway cruising. The latter will be aided by active shutters on the grille. Other mechanical updates include greater torsional rigidity that will help produce a quieter cabin, no doubt aided by new adaptive air suspension. This will also lower the car when passengers enter. We’re expecting a few more teasers with some further details before the QX80 debuts on March 20.
