Mercedes Farms All Future V12 Production to AMG

While so many other automakers are abandoning big engines in favor of forced induction power, Mercedes is hanging on to its V12 engine as an option for its most discerning customers.

That doesn’t mean the massive motors will be any less scarce than they already are – in fact it will be quite the opposite. Mercedes plans to task its AMG division with building all future V12s, even for cars that don’t bear the performance arm’s badge.

As a group dedicated to limited production and special performance cars, AMG is well suited to build the brand’s biggest and smoothest powerplants. The next generation S600, due during the 2014 model year, will be the first to come equipped with an AMG-built V12 without actually being one.
