Toyota’s Pike Peak Hill Climb car has already stirred up its fair share of interest. The electric racer is now testing in full livery in preperation for the race this Sunday.

The car is called the TMG EV P002. It is driven by two axial flux motors that make nearly 470 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, that Toyota predicts will hit a top speed of 149 mph. Japanese rally champion Fumio Nutahara is the driver for this famed race.

This is not the only EV at Pikes Peak. Also competing are an E36 BMW M3 that has been converted into an EV and another electric racer piloted by Pikes Peak record holder Monster Tajima.

These electric cars may have to deal with heavy drivetrains but do not suffer the power losses that naturally-aspirated, internal-combustion powered vehicles have to contend with due to the thin air at Pikes Peak.
