BMW will bring a near-production concept version of its X4 crossover to the Detroit Auto Show next January.

Targeting the upcoming Porsche Macan, BMW’s newest member of the X family will share a platform with the X3 in much the same manner as the X6 does beside the X5. As part of that plan, the car will adopt a more aggressive, sloping exterior and will likely share its engine line with the X3 as well. That will mean a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 240 hp and a 3.0-liter turbo six with 300.

By adding more premium styling, the brand will also be able to bump the car’s price above the X3 to better BMW’s bottom line. AutoWeek reports the car will likely start around $42,000.

Plans for an X4M have also been floating around for some time, said to be a taller version of the M3. That version will get a specially-tuned version of the sixth generation M3’s twin-turbo six cylinder.
