The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded the 2013 Nissan Altima with a “Top Safety Pick Plus”, recognizing the new sedan for excellent performance in five passenger safety tests.

The 2013 Altima has already been awarded a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and scored well on all the new IIHS tests: front, side, rollover, rear, and small overlap frontal.

Coming standard on the Nissan Altima is the automaker’s Advanced Air Bag System, Vehicle Dynamic Control, three-point ALR/ELR seat belt system, Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH), zone body construction, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System with Easy Fill Tire Alert.

“Driver and passenger safety are top priorities for Nissan, which is why we make features like Safety Shield technologies available,” said Bob Yakushi , Nissan’s director of product safety. “The 2013 Altima is truly Nissan’s most innovative Altima ever, and the ‘Top Safety Pick Plus’ designation by IIHS reflects the engineering and design that have gone into this car to make it stand out in the class.”
