The gorgeous Jaguar XF Sportbrake could be seeing an upgrade in the form of a better engine, sportier suspension and other performance add-ons.

According to Autocar, Jaguar global brand director Adrian Hallmark called the idea of an XFR Sportbrake an “Interesting project,” giving some hope for a supercharged V8 wagon to compete with the German super-wagons like the Mercedes E63 AMG and Audi RS6 Avant.

The sedan version of the XFR puts out 503-hp and 461 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in 4.7 seconds. The XFR also includes significant chassis and suspension adjustments. The tamer XF Sportbrake also has a few changes from the XF sedan including a self-leveling rear suspension, which Hallmark said would be “tricky to re-engineer … to cope with the high performance of such an engine”

Still hope isn’t lost for such a vehicle, which could be seen as a potential halo model. Hallmark expressed interest in doing a limited run of 300-400 XFR Sportbrakes if the car does come to fruition.
