Now that Steve Saleen is back at the helm of his prestigious brand, the famed Mustang tuner has released an updated S351 packing 700 hp and 655 lb-ft of torque.

It’s been nearly 13 years since a Saleen production vehicle has sported a 351 c.i.d. engine under the hood, but the new S351 is not one to laugh at thanks to its Saleen 296 supercharger system. The S351 takes advantage of a six-speed transmission equipped with a high-performance Saleen clutch system and a 3.73:1 final drive ratio.

Braking performance has been upgraded with Saleen’s 15-inch brake package with multi-piston brake caliper setup while a staggered set of 20-inch Saleen five-spoke wheels adorn each corner.

“Everything about this project has been mindful of the goal to create the most potent Mustang on the market”, said Al Wagner, V.P. of Engineering. “I think we have certainly pushed the bar in the production Mustang segment with our 351 offering. Once the project came together I couldn’t help but thinking; if the 302 mustang is using a coyote engine, the 351 is definitely the gray wolf of the class.”

so they are calling it a 351 even though its only really a 302? why not just punch it out to a 351? they punched the 4.6 to a 5.0 back in 07 on the PJ saleen, for that much bank, they should use the shelby 5.8 block or punch the 302 to a 351

The current 5.8L engine used in the GT500 has been tweaked out by Sean Hyland, garnering 800 hp and 800tq. Saleen would be probably work within those numbers or perhaps a bit less (on purpose). The torque would make the car very difficult to drive for some people (I've driven a car in that class - not easy). An estimated 0-60 time of 3.5s is mind blowing. . I don't think the 49ci will be missed.
