Based on Mercedes’ new front-wheel drive MFA platform, the GLA45 AMG is on its way, and our spy photographers just caught it testing in the cold reaches of northern Sweden.

Until now, the arrival of a hopped-up AMG version of the GLA was unconfirmed, but now we know that it will exist, likely thanks in no small part to Audi’s plan to offer an RS version of its Q3. Distinguishing this car from the regular GLA are dual exhaust pipes, larger wheels and drilled brake rotors, along with a typical throaty AMG exhaust note.

Expected under the hood is a turbocharged four-cylinder that pumps out around 350 hp, mated to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift dual clutch gearbox. The GLA45 is also expected to get AMG’s new all-wheel drive setup.
