The car that started Kia’s modern day transformation will itself be re-invented, with the Korean automaker planning to debut the second-generation of its distinctive Soul model at the NY Auto Show this week.

Spy photos have revealed little in the way of what Kia has in store for the design, though it’s sure to adapt cues from the new Forte sedan, while keeping its unique boxy shape. A lower stance and wider body are also likely.

Look for a base 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 138 hp, with a new direct injection 2.0-liter making as much as 173 hp.

As for the Forte Koup, don’t expect any surprises beyond what’s currently offered in the sedan model including a base 148 hp 1.8-liter and a 173 hp 2.0-liter. Notable features will include the brand’s new Flex Steer system with options for Normal, Comfort and Sport modes.

Look for both new cars to debut Wednesday, March 27th.
