Cadillac Elmiraj-Inspired Flagship Appears in Spy Shots

Cadillac has begun road testing its new rear-wheel drive flagship and our spy photographers have captured some images showing off a heavily camouflaged prototype of the new model.

Codenamed O1SL, styling cues for the car will come from Cadillac’s recent Elmiraj concept, though the production model will feature four doors rather than the two found on the concept. Based on GM’s new rear-drive Omega chassis, the flagship will look to take on the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7 Series, and is also likely to offer a coupe and convertible model in the future.

What will reside under the hood is still up in the air, with some possibilities being GM’s twin-turbo V6, a refined version of the 5.3-liter V8 or even a version of the Elmiraj concept’s twin-turbo V8. Whatever GM decides on, the motor is likely going to be linked up to a 9- or 10-speed transmission.

The actual name for the car is still under wraps as well, but GM recently trademarked the LTS moniker, which would fit with the brand’s current naming convention if used on the new flagship.

Production is slated to begin in the third quarter of 2015.

I was all excited about this car.....BUT...being it's going to be a 4 door...Cadillac can keep it. Make it a 2 door just like the concept and it will sell great. Pass for me on Cadillac ruining it.

A flagship Cadillac is going to be a four door vehicle, not two.
