Sold in the U.S. as the Jetta SportWagen, Volkswagen is working on a high-performance version of its Golf R Variant.

Seen testing by AutoGuide‘s spy photographers, the Volkswagen Golf R wagon is powered by the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 290 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque found in the Golf R. The high-performance wagon will be available with Haldex 4Motion all-wheel drive and a choice between a six-speed manual transmission or DSG.

As a result, the Golf R Variant sprints to 62 mph in 5.5 seconds and will carry over the styling from the Golf R to the wagon body. The production model will likely make its debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show but it’s unlikely that it’ll be sold in North America.
