BMW is planning on growing the 2 Series lineup with a sports-oriented M2 model along with a convertible, the latter of which our spy photographers snapped testing.

Although we have seen test mules for the car before, this set shows off the ragtop model almost completely without camouflage. Besides some small strips of cammo on the front end, the rest of the car appears to be finished, and the actual convertible top looks production ready.

Powertrains are expected to stay the same as the rest of the 2 Series lineup, which means a 240-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant as the base engine and a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 320 hp and 330 lb-ft for the better models.

The car is expected to begin production late this year.
