Two Subaru products have joined the top ranks for safety according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Both the 2015 Subaru Legacy and its station wagon counterpart, the Outback, have earned a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the IIHS, the best possible rating. Improvements for the 2015 model year improved the car’s small overlap crash test rating up to a score of ‘good,’ rather than the previous ‘marginal’ rating.

The Legacy scored top marks in all other categories, including the new forward collision alert rating. For a vehicle to earn the ‘plus’ designation, it must have some sort of forward collision alert, and the Subaru Legacy’s setup scored a ‘superior’ rating.
