Daimler is expanding its stake in Aston Martin as a part of the previously announced for AMG to provide engines to the British exotic car builder.

The German manufacturer will take on an additional one percent stake in the company, increasing its overall share in the Gaydon, U.K.-based company to five percent. Aston Martin is also expected to borrow from Mercedes in developing a new SUV, but that model is still far away. Currently, the company is busy developing a sports car platform that will underpin a new DB9 in 2016 followed by more models later.

Apart from supplying Aston Martin with engines, the Mercedes will also supply electronics and electrical components as a part of the alliance.
