VW Beetle Recalled for Shattering Sunroofs

As if the discomfort isn’t reason enough, there’s a new reason to avoid potholes if you own a Volkswagen Beetle.

The company is issuing a recall covering 7,062 Beetles ranging from the 2013 to 2015 model year because they were sold with glass panels that might break if the cars run over “a hard road surface,” or if they strike a pothole according to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Volkswagen said it is not aware of any injuries related to the defect, but it is asking owners to bring their vehicles in to a dealer to have the defective part replaced. Models that the recall affects were manufactured between June 13, 2013 to July 3, 2014.

Starting on December 19, Volkswagen says its dealer network will begin replacing the panels at no cost to owners.
