Top 10 Craziest Cars of the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon
Some say the Tokyo Auto Salon is the mecca for Japanese tuning enthusiasts. Others believe it’s the only place in the world you can see some of the wildest, most extreme creations ever imagined.
Each year, AutoGuide.com travels to the Tokyo Auto Salon and every time we walk away impressed with just how clever some of the cars can get. This year’s craziest car though, might just take the cake… pun intended.
At first glance, this Lamborghini isn’t really that crazy all things considered. But closer inspection at the side mirrors and your eyebrows have to start raising. There’s just some wild details that seem completely out of place on an Italian exotic. Crafted on both side mirrors appear to be dragon claws while more Asian-inspired ornaments take place of the factory Lamborghini emblems. Take a closer look at the details from this crazy Lamborghini below.

Customized vans are popular in Japan and while this isn’t one of the craziest we’ve ever seen over the years, it’s pretty wild at this year’s show. There might not be any crazy body work or 10-inch exhaust tips sticking out the rear, but it does sport an aqua paint job that has been matched to the wheels, while bagged to sit on the ground. In addition, there is plenty of body work that went into the project, as evident with the molded side skirts and front valence to the rest of the body. It’s also been cleaned of all door handles so it’s nice and sleek. It’s what we’d like to call a clean sort of crazy.
And then there’s this. We’re not even sure what’s going on here but there’s a pink bunny, a pink pickup truck with pink suicide doors and pink wheels. Oh and uhh… we think one of the coolers are mounted outside the front bumper. So yeah, we’re pretty much at a loss for words on this one.
We get the whole “shark teeth on cars” is a thing, but this Ferrari 458 is well, way over the top. The holographic gold foil looks like it came straight out of the 80s while the teeth actually wrap around the side of the front bumper for a full-on front smile. The wheels aren’t exactly atrocious, but the bronze finish clashes with the gold foil rather than complements it. What might surprise you is that this car wasn’t even the craziest car in the booth, nor is the other shiny, holographic-rainbow Lamborghini next to it.
The Boomcraft booth was filled with wild exotics that have been taken to a whole new level… but the body kit and styling on this Murcielago is the most out of this world. Unfortunately the cars were packed so tightly into the booth, we weren’t able to get you a rear shot of the car – but believe us, it was ridiculous. You can also see a subtle hint of the contrasting purple graphics on the side of the car while the interior was slathered with white and purple leather. And before you even ask, that sign does say “Morocielago,” which is apparently what Boomcraft calls this particular project.
Flames! Airbrushed fire on cars never seems to fade away in the customizing scene. But this crazy van takes things to another level, with the airbrushed fire transitioning onto the lips of the wheels, because how acceptable would it be if the fire didn’t flow? Then there’s the side doors that open up on hood/trunk shocks though honestly the whole double headlight thing just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to us. So yeah, it also has a front-mount intercooler meaning it’s turbocharged and just to keep up with all the other trends, it sports widebody overfenders. Talk about a stylish van.
We really couldn’t do a Top 10 Craziest Cars of the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon without making mention of the NATS Extreme Toyota GT86. Anytime you decide to take a Japanese sports car like a Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S in North America) and transform the aesthetics to resemble a stubby Lamborghini, you’re bound to strike up some curiosity.

We think the NATS Extreme GT86 is a love it or hate it sort of car but you can’t deny the creativity. The bigger question you might want to ask is… why?

This Porsche is crazy… but in a good way. We love its matte gray finish that’s contrasted with black accents while the Liberty Walk body kit simply transforms the 911 sports car into something menacing. There’s a lot of cars at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon with the Liberty Walk treatment, but we find that it looks stunning on the 911’s body and the more aggressive style is just what the German automaker’s sports car needs.
In covering the KUHL Racing Nissan GT-R, we called it the craziest car at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon. Well, we lied. Believe it or not, it’s the second craziest despite all its attempts to be over-the-top with its extravagant engraved metal paint, super widebody kit with aggressive body lines and massive wheels.

Yes it’s a car covered in sweets. From donuts to macarons, crepes to gingerbread men, this little compact is every glutton’s dream. Well, it’s our dream too, but sadly we didn’t get a chance to actually taste the sweets on the car, though we’re not entirely sure we’d want to see how real they really are.
It did cause us to have a hankering to devour some Japanese delicacies while walking the Tokyo Auto Salon show floor and you really can’t overlook some of the details that went into producing this truly one-of-a-kind car.
