The 2014-2015 Kia Soul is being recalled in the U.S.

The Korean automaker is recalling 208,858 Soul compacts because the accelerator pedal may bend or break, resulting in problems accelerating the vehicle and increasing the likelihood of a crash or accident. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the company inspected two fractured accelerator pedals from the field last October and sent them to South Korea for evaluation.

The North American arm for Kia eventually found a dozen warranty claims for the issue, but no accidents or injuries related to it have been reported. As part of the recall, which also effects the electric version of the Soul, Kia will add supporting rubber underneath the pedal stopper at no cost. Expect the recall to begin March 24.
