Chevrolet is cutting the price on the current-generation Volt.

The American automaker is getting ready to start production on the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt, which means current inventories need to be cleared out as soon as possible. Effective April 14, the American automaker is offering a new $1,500 rebate off the 2015 Chevrolet Volt price, bringing the total to $2,500 off in rebates.

In addition, the 2015 Chevrolet Volt lease price has dropped to $249 a month for 39 months, $50 less than before, with 10,000 annual miles. The amount due at signing also dropped to $500 from $1,449.

Even better news if you don’t currently own a Chevrolet model: the American automaker is waiving the amount due at signing with a $500 conquest bonus if you’re coming from a competitive vehicle. As for those that want to finance the current Volt, Chevrolet is offering 2.9-percent financing on 2015 models for 48 months and zero percent on any remaining 2014 models.

Sales on the Volt has slowed significantly, dropping 48 percent in the first quarter of 2015 to 1,874 units. The company estimates that it has a 200-day supply of cars, which points to buyers waiting for the second-generation model to be arrive. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt will go into production this year and will be available in the second half of 2015.
