Mercedes-Benz is previewing a future crossover at the 2015 Shanghai Motor Show.

“With its modern and sensual design idiom, the Concept GLC Coupé gives a foretaste of future SUV models from Mercedes-Benz. At the same time, it embraces the typical values of tradition-steeped Mercedes-Benz coupés,” said Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Daimler AG.

The GLC Coupe concept looks like it is close to being production ready. It measures 186.2 inches long with a 111.4-inch wheelbase and is being displayed with massive 21-inch wheels. Under the hood, Mercedes is showing off a 3.0-liter biturbo V6 engine with 367 hp and 384 lb-ft of torque mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. But the major focus is on the GLC Coupe’s design and when this model heads to production it will have be competing directly with the BMW X4.

The GLC Coupe has a muscular design with a hint that it will be off-road capable. While it’s expected to be toned down a bit for the production model, it serves as evidence to the direction Mercedes wants to go. The GLC will be replacing the GLK in the company’s lineup.
