The Volkswagen Golf R400 is heading to production and we’ve got proof.

AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers caught this aggressive Golf testing and while at first glance it looks like a Golf R, there are some clues that hint at its true identity. The larger rear wing on the test car looks like it’s been borrowed from the GTI Clubsport while cross-drilled brake rotors and larger calipers are also present. Combine that with sportier wheels, a lower stance and a subtle front lip spoiler and it appears that Volkswagen is currently in the testing phase for a production Golf R400.

The latest reports suggest the Golf R400 will pack over 400 hp and come equipped with a dual-clutch transmission sending power through VW’s 4Motion all-wheel drive setup. The 0-62 mph time is expected to sit around 3.9 seconds. Rumor has it that the production model will debut later this year at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and we already know that this car will make its way to North America sometime after its reveal.
