The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is getting a facelift and AutoGuide.com‘s spy photographers have caught it testing.

Our photographers report that several S-Class prototypes have been seen testing with new headlights under black tape while this one has the front grille under camouflage. It appears that the German automaker is splitting up the changes planned for its flagship sedan into several prototypes, which means we may see another set of spy photos with the sedan’s new front bumper covered up. One thing all of the prototypes had in common however was that the interior was completely covered, meaning the dash will get an update.

Considering the new E-Class recently made its debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show and Mercedes is touting it as its most advanced vehicle yet, it is likely that the S-Class will be receiving updates to bring it up to par. Expect the S-Class to get the latest version of the COMAND system as well as gesture controls.

Since the facelift is being tested in various parts across several prototypes, we will have to be patient until all of it shows up on one vehicle. Like other mid-cycle refreshes, expect the S-Class to sport a new front end while the rear will get an updated bumper and tail lights.
