General Motors has announced a recall for about 200,000 Saab and Saturn models equipped with Takata airbags.

This is part of a recently announced recall expansion that was spurred by the death of a driver in a Ford Ranger. The recall affects the 2003-2011 Saab 9-3, 2010-2011 Saab 9-5 and the 2008-2009 Saturn Astra.

In these models, the airbag inflators can explode with too much force, causing metal shrapnel to be hurled at the driver.

A recall schedule has not been announced yet by the company. Affected customers can get more details by calling Saab customer service at (800) 955-9007 or Saturn customer service at (800) 553-6000.
