Patent images have been uncovered that show off the upcoming 2017 Honda Civic hatchback.

The Civic hatchback seen here is very similar to the Civic hatchback prototype that Honda recently revealed 2016 Geneva Motor Show, though the car in the patent images is slightly toned down compared to the show car which was dressed like a hot hatch.

The aggressive bodywork has been removed for the standard Civic hatchback and there doesn’t appear to be the centrally-mounted twin-tailpipe setup that was seen on the prototype.

Proportions were announced for the prototype which tell us that the new Civic hatchback will be 1.1-inches wider, 0.7-inches lower and 5.1-inches longer than the current version of the car.

When the Civic hatchback arrives in the U.S. in the second half of 2016, it will only be available with the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The hatchback will also serve as the basis for the new Type R model that will eventually come to North America, with looks that are likely inspired by the Geneva prototype.

I quite like the coupe variant, but this hatch doesn't do it for me. Not a very clean design.

why does Honda insist on trying to revive the crosstour design in the civic? You're better than that Honda.
